The Hamilton Tiger-Cat Athletic Trust — operating as the Hamilton Athletic Trust — is one of two trusts established in perpetuity when the Hamilton Tiger-Cat Football Club passed into private hands. Created in 1961, the Athletic Trust exists to serve a broad spectrum of amateur sports other than football. Since its founding, the capital sum has grown seven-fold while providing grants to 35–50 organizations annually.

The Athletic Trust Agreement of 1961 directs the Trustees to fulfill these ongoing duties to the Hamilton community.

Invite self-sustaining amateur sports clubs, teams, organizations and associations to apply on a yearly basis for financial aid in support of their goals.

Assess each application received and dispense grants accordingly — dedicated to fostering, developing, encouraging, and assisting amateur sports in Hamilton.

Hold in trust and invest the capital funds, keeping the principal intact while making yearly earned investment income available for amateur sport.

The Trust is administered by an independent board dedicated to supporting amateur sport in Hamilton.
